Do you ever create (or even publish) content, then not share it with anyone Reader? This blog post has been published for weeks, and every week I think about emailing you about it, then I talk myself out of it. And before I could send it out to my Comfy Business Newsletter subscribers, I got the collywobbles. Normally, I get an idea for a post or email, write it, and send it pretty quickly before doubt has a chance to set in. But because this one required a slower pace and more consideration, I left the door wide open for the 'Who do you think you are?' gremlins to crawl in, and convince me to hide it instead of promote it. Way back in February, I was excited to share my point of view about this seemingly innocuous turn of phrase that seems to have infiltrated every square inch of online marketing. So, tapping back into that historical enthusiasm, may I present you with... New Blog Post: Not X, But Y - the small phrase sabotaging your marketing. I'm a bit worried this blog post comes across like my joyless sixth form English A-Level teacher bemoaning the degeneration of our great language - so if you enjoy it and/or find it helpful, do let me know. But if you think I sound like a moany old wind-bag...maybe just keep that to yourself. P.S. Want to work 1-1 on a marketing idea, plan or problem? Book a 20-minute Unjumble here. |

My brain has a mighty powerful But Why Reflex, Reader If someone tells me to do something, it is very difficult for me to do that thing if I don't understand the logic behind why we’re doing it. I’ve been making money online for more than 15 years, and in all that time, I have really struggled with using urgency to sell. I know that it works. I know that it’ll help me make more sales, so I’ll be helping more people. I know that some buyers find it helpful to have a set window of time in which...
‘Won’t someone just use AI to do/learn this?’ If you’ve had this concern 👆 Reader, you’re not alone. I hear this from mentoring clients, or during Passholder Q&A days at least once a month. Firstly, let’s knock this problem back down to a reasonable size…. You’re over-estimating people’s willingness and ability to use AI to solve their problems. You’re wildly over-estimating AI’s ability to be helpful. We have been here before with a similar concern of: ‘won’t people just Google it?’ Now...
This is the scene Son#2 and The Husband found when they popped their heads into the bedroom to check on me (I'd been gone a few hours) Son#2: ‘What happened here?’ The Husband: ‘Mum emptied her head out onto the floor.’ I had to let the ideas out, but they don’t like to be written on a computer - they’ll only come through if I write them by hand…. and so a few times a year, after a rush of inspiration, my bedroom floor looks like this. But my ideas are only half the story. The other half...
