Do you keep track of what you’ve done, not just what you need to do Reader? A to-done list…. or even a ta-dah list if you’re feeling exuberant. I’ve done it for short periods when my inner voice has been particularly savage and I needed to feel better about what I was doing with my time. But it hasn’t been a habit of mine. It felt like too much of a faff to do The Thing and then write down that I had done The Thing. A few weeks ago, Son#2 began attending a farm-based day centre as part of his journey towards a qualification in animal care (when I drop him off, I get out the car just so I can hear the cockerel crow, the turkeys gobble and the donkeys bray - what a magical way to start the day). We started keeping a journal of the hours he attended and the tasks he completed because that info will be useful later to evidence his work experience for the qualification, and to maintain funding for the placement. And, as I have good reasons for keeping this journal, I haven’t found it too much of a faff at all - it’s actually a really fun part of our day. So, I’m going to have another crack at keeping my own ‘What Laura Did’ record because it’s good for my self-esteem, it's helpful to find opportunities to be more productive or tighten up how I do things, and it will give me ideas for marketing content. Let’s see if keeping those three goals in mind will reduce the perceived faff-factor. Here’s an anonymised version of what I recorded for this week:
That didn’t take me long to record, and helped me spot ideas for three blog posts, and one newsletter. Let’s see if I can keep this up and do it again next week (I won’t email it to you every time though…. I guess I could share it publicly on my course platform if that would be interesting/helpful).
P.S. Want to work with me 1-1? You can book a one-off Unjumble session with me here - so we can spend 20-minutes figuring out your next steps on a sticky problem. You can find details on my 12-week mentoring program, Marketing On Purpose here - so you can focus your time, energy and headspace on marketing that gets you where you want to go (whatever goals you have for your business). |

At the end of a long and tiring day, my brain told me to turn off the TV and draw a duck. I know better than to argue with my brain, Reader - there would be no sleep until I had followed the inspiration. So I did. One day, I would like to illustrate my blog posts and newsletters consistently, with drawings that clearly communicate something, and are in a style that is recognisably mine. But for now, I am playing around, drawing animals, weather icons, and whatever else I feel like attempting....
Yesterday, as I was a couple of hours into working on a new tool I’m excited about, I started to feel Not Good, Reader My chest felt tight, so I took off my bra (even though it was more than five hours before bra-off-o-clock), but I still felt like my lungs were being crushed. Then I realised my tongue was rammed hard up against the roof of my mouth - just like it is when I’m really stressed. I was focusing so hard on the thing I was excited about, I was holding my breath. So I looked it up,...
Way, way back in 2007, as a young mum with two boys under 2, my life was revolutionized by being able to order my groceries online and have them delivered to my house. Honestly, it was life-changing. Because we live by the coast and away from major towns, we had a very small number of supermarket chains to choose from... well we had one to choose from. One. Only one of the major brands would deliver to our area at that time. So we 'chose' them, and happily shopped with them for the next 18...
