At the end of a long and tiring day, my brain told me to turn off the TV and draw a duck. I know better than to argue with my brain, Reader - there would be no sleep until I had followed the inspiration. So I did. One day, I would like to illustrate my blog posts and newsletters consistently, with drawings that clearly communicate something, and are in a style that is recognisably mine. But for now, I am playing around, drawing animals, weather icons, and whatever else I feel like attempting. Most of the time I keep them to myself. Occasionally, I plonk them into a newsletter. I have a long-term goal for my Laura Learns To Draw project - I can see how it maybe one day might possibly perhaps be part of my business. But for now, it sits in a liminal space between work and hobby. It’s a wobby. Today I had a Voxer session with a client I’ve been working with for a few months. She is working on a creative side project only loosely connected with her business, and like my drawing, one day, maybe, it will be monetized in some way. Another wobby. Let’s normalize the wobby (it’s OK - you don’t have to call it that). To make space for something that may or may not one day generate money, but even if it doesn’t, it’s a totally valuable and worthy way to invest our time and energy anyway and kinda counts as work, but is also as fun as a hobby. I am here for your 'this is my wobby' replies. P.S. Want to borrow this email format/topic/idea for your own newsletter? Go for it, and please include a line that says something like 'inspired by this week's Comfy Business Newsletter' - and include that link. |

Last weekend, I created a new course, Reader That was the easy bit. Next step is writing the launch emails 😐🫣🤷♀️ I'd rather not. Book a 20-minute Unjumble here. - I'd much rather work on your launch than mine. P.S. The new course is called (after your votes) Listen Up: A guide to discovering what your audience really wants, needs, and thinks...
Reader This weekend, I’m writing a course. Wanna help me choose a title and tagline combo? Do you ever create (or even publish) content, then not share it with anyone Reader? This blog post has been published for weeks, and every week I think about emailing you about it, then I talk myself out of it.I spent hours researching and writing it. And before I could send it out to my Comfy Business Newsletter subscribers, I got the collywobbles. Normally, I get an idea for a post or email, write it, and send it pretty quickly before doubt has a chance to set in. But because this one...
